I just got back from a six day trip to Washington DC. As you probably guessed, the reason that I went to Washington DC was to spend Christmas with my family. Although I currently live on the other side of the United States, I grew up in Washington DC, and that city is still the place where my parents call home.
Because I did grow up in Washington, I always enjoy going back there. Unfortunately, because I live so far away, the trip that I take there for Christmas is normally one of the only two trips that I take to Washington each year. In addition to the trip I take for Christmas and at some point during the summer, I used to visit Washington over the Thanksgiving holiday. However, now that I am in a serious relationship with my girlfriend, I have made the decision to spend my Thanksgiving holidays with her and her family.
Spending a major holiday with a family other than my own has been a major adjustment, but fortunately for me, it has gone very well. Her family has been very warm towards me, so I can genuinely say that I have enjoyed the two Thanksgiving holidays that I have spent with them.
